Editor’s Pick II January 2013: AHAVA Purifying Mud Mask

I've always been fascinated with Dead Sea skin care. One of my must-go places in this lifetime must be the Holy Land, and perhaps Israel, as I'd like to have a dip at the Dead Sea, feel like the lighest human being on Earth by floating there, and covering my body in dead sea mud. Dead Sea water, or mud, is said to be really good for the skin, as the water is filled with beneficial minerals. More words about water/mud from the Dead Sea include anti-inflammatory, purifying, anti-aging, improves blood circulation, and packed with antioxidants. So much great stuff that I read and hear about, that I can't help but be interested to see what the raves are all about.

Thanks to my home, Sample Room, that I am able to try AHAVA Purifying Mud Mask. AHAVA is a world-renowned Dead Skin skincare brand, well known for smelling great, and giving great results on the skin!

The AHAVA Time to Clear Purifying Mud Mask promises to give the skin that much-needed deep cleansing, and restoring the skin to have that brighter, more even toned, radiant complexion. Noteworthy ingredients include kaolin clay that helps absorb excess oil, horsetail extract that has excellent anti-inflammatory properties, and moisturizing Jojoba Oil. Add Dead Sea Mud to that, and that is the perfect equation for a cleaner, and more radiant-looking skin.

I use this product at night. After a hard day's work, I wash my face, and prepare for my evening skin care regimen. This day of the week happens to be deep-cleansing week, so the AHAVA Purifying Mud Mask had some duties for the night! After washing my skin using my trusty cleanser, I wiped my skin gently with a towel. I proceeded to apply the mud mask on my entire face, avoiding the eye area, as instructed. As compared to other mud masks in the market, I wasn't able to detect a strong smell from this - it smelled neutrally okay, which was fine. The instructions say to wait for two minutes and rinse off, but I always over-estimate my skin, as I have comedones, and oily, and acne-prone skin. With this, I waited for five minutes!

As I waited for five minutes, I felt my skin slowly tightening, as the product dried up on my skin. I avoided talking or making facial movements so as not to "crack" my face filled with Dead Sea Mud. After five minutes, I rinsed my face with lukewarm water.

I'll tell you what happened. As I dried my skin with a towel again, I began to touch my skin and feel it. It was so soft, and my skin was brighter than usual. One remarkable thing that I was able to appreciate about the AHAVA Purifying Mud Mask was that I really felt that all the impurities in my skin were drawn out. They were drawn out, and were on the surface of my skin, just waiting to be exfoliated off using a facial scrub! After exfoliating my skin, I used my trusty toner to further remove the drawn-out impurities, and more came off. It was amazing. It was like having a facial, by just using this product! I felt that my skin was reborn.

Do take note that my skin profile is oily, acne-prone, and have problems with whiteheads and blackheads. This product, I feel, will work great for normal to oily skin. For normal skin, all you need to do post-mud mask is to exfoliate your skin, and your skin will feel really clean. You would benefit from the skin-softening, and skin-brightening qualities of this product. For those who have oily skin, you will get to benefit, aside from the deep-cleansing properties, that is you'd have less oily skin, as it has kaolin clay. For those who have whiteheads and blackheads, this is heaven sent- they'll be drawn out within five minutes, for exfoliation, or for your dermatologist's cleaning treatment! For those who frequent a dermatologist, use this the night before your monthly visit, and your cleaning session/treatment with your dermatologist will be more effective! With such well-cleansed skin using the AHAVA Purifying Mud Mask, how will blemishes ever form? Such a great, preventative product, if you ask me! Oh wait, did I mention that this can dry out existing pimples? You can use this as a spot corrector, too!

I do need to remind you that if you happen to grab this sample, and feel some bumps on your face, it's because that there are deep-seated dirt from your skin that surfaced as the Purifying Mud Mask did the job of drawing those out. This product dries out oil from comedones and blemishes. If it doesn't go away by exfoliation, then please go to your local facial care center or dermatologist for that much-needed extraction/cleaning.

AHAVA Purifying Mud Mask just made it to my must-have products that I need to use once or twice a week. Perhaps, one day, I will never have to have blemishes again. Oh, a girl can dream, and take baby steps, such as this!
