Beauty Tips For Moms : Because Motherhood Is Not An Excuse!

Somehow, when someone is referred to as a mom, the image that usually pops up is someone who is so busy with taking care of the kids and family that she neglects herself in the process. Hence the rise to popularity of the word losyang which has somehow become synonymous with mukhang nanay. Does the term mukhang nanay need to have a negative connotation?

I beg to differ. I'm a mom to two kids – a gradeschooler and a tween. Although I must admit that I usually just put on a shirt and jeans when I go to work (hubby's family biz deals in construction supplies) I never forego skin care and hair care. I'm just a couple of years shy of 40 and so I can't afford not to take care of myself. You can too, you just need to set aside a few minutes in the morning and another few minutes at night.

Here's a rundown of stuff I do for skin and hair maintenance: • Shampoo and condition hair daily, deep condition once a week. • Cleanse, tone, moisturize, and use eye cream (day and night). • Apply sunblock before going out (face and body). • Use a facial mask 1-2x a week depending on what my skin needs. • Exfoliate once a week (face and body). • Remove make-up completely before going to bed.

I'm not a lotion person but I probably need to start establishing the habit of applying body lotion at night before I go to sleep. I don't go to the dermatologist or have regular facials, it's all pretty much self-maintenance in my case. I do however invest in products I believe in. Call me vain but I really don't mind paying a premium if whatever it is works! After all, I only have one face and body.

I usually don't have too much time to make myself up on regular days so if for example I have to attend a school affair or a meeting midday, I need to fix myself up quickly before hubby and I go to the office! That leaves me with less than 30 minutes for everything. If I'm not going anywhere (meaning I'm just at the office) I'm pretty much barefaced with just a layer of sunblock to protect my skin.

My quick fix usually consists of BB cream, eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, mascara, and tinted lip balm. Now how do you do all that in 10 minutes or less?

1. Get your brows shaped professionally so all you need to do is clean up by plucking stray hairs. This will let you groom your brows so much faster. I have mine done at Browhaus. 2. Invest in a good BB cream (or foundation if that is what you prefer), eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, mascara, and tinted lip balm... and whatever else you consider a necessity. If you use good products it seriously takes less time to look great. 3. Invest in a good haircut that's easy to style. I always tell whoever is cutting my hair that I want a low maintenance do that does not require a battalion of styling tools and products.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to pile on too many products to look presentable and put-together. You just have to choose the right products that work for your skin tone and type... and that's one of the reasons why we have Sample Room, so you can try before you buy.
