Roommate of the Month for August 2017

Most of us have this intense desire of trying and buying new things especially when there’s a fresh cosmetic, skin, hair, or clothing brand that’s making a huge buzz out there in the market. And it’s just too flattering that these same people, no matter how busy they are, make time to share their impressions and experiences about a particular product on their blog to help others create an informed decision.
Why are we saying this? It’s because our Sample Room detectives have spotted this 25-year-old Research Coordinator who is seen active since 2016, doing the same groove to inspire and inform fellow beauty lovers about her latest finds at Sample Room!
Dear roommates, we’re proud to present you our Roommate of the Month for August – Tefanie Deang a.k.a. Tep!
To learn more how she started her blog “Tep Tries New Stuff”, we’ve prepared some questions for her to answer.   ABOUT TEFANIE’S BLOG 1. Tell us about you and your blog.
“Hi! I'm Tefanie Deang a.k.a Tep from Tep Tries New Stuff. My blog is all about my beauty and skincare journey. At 25, I still consider myself a newbie on those topics so I just want to share all the things I discover to my fellow beauty lovers.
2. When did you start your blog and what inspired you to create one?
“My blog was born on Sept 2016 - around the time I seriously got into skincare. I thought keeping a blog would be good for a number of reasons. First of all, it keeps me accountable. I'm motivated to research and actually try (and finish!) all the products I buy. It's a great way to discipline myself. Second, it's a creative & educational hobby. I enjoy the whole blogging process and I'm always learning new things along the way. Last but not the least, it allows me to connect and interact with other beauty junkies! If my blog helps someone make an informed decision, I'm happy!”
3. Who are the bloggers that you look up to?
“I like visiting the amazing beauty and skincare communities on Reddit/Instagram. Shoutout to r/skincareaddiction, r/asianbeauty and our local subreddit, r/beautytalkph! I usually just lurk there, but I learned a lot from them!
Most of the people who frequent the subs (subreddits) are also skincare nerds who have their own beauty blogs. To name a few, there's Fiddy from Fifty Shades of Snail, Chel from Holy Snails, and F.C. from Simple Skincare Science. From our local beauty blogging scene, I think Liz Lanuzo from Project Vanity is inspirational.”
4. Top 3 advice you can give to our roommates who are interested to start blogging.
“First of all, just do it! It's never too late to start your own blog. Pick a niche that you love so it wouldn't feel like a chore.
Second, keep it going! A blog involves a lot of work behind the scenes (i.e. product testing, picture taking, social media updates, the actual blogging/editing, etc) so you have to commit yourself. Set some goals and aim to post regularly.
Lastly, don't get discouraged if your stats don't go up as quickly as you want. Remember, you got to start somewhere. Just be honest and detailed as much as possible and soon, people will keep coming back to read your opinion!”
1. Share to us your skincare routine!
“I switch products a lot but my routine usually consists of the following:
Morning: Facial Wash > Toner > Moisturizer > Sunscreen
Night: Cleansing Oil > Facial Wash > Toner > Exfoliant (every other day) > Serum/Essence > Sheet Mask (optional) > Moisturizer
In the morning, I use a gentle facial wash followed by a hydrating toner. After that, I moisturize my skin and protect it by using a sunscreen. I'm currently using Human Nature Balancing Facial Wash, Skinfood Premium Tomato Whitening Toner, Pond's White Beauty Day Cream, and Biore Perfect Bright Milk Sunscreen.
At night, I double cleanse by adding Biore Cleansing Oil. After toning, I proceed to exfoliate my skin. I usually do clay masks but as of the moment, I'm currently loving Cosrx BHA Power Liquid. It's a chemical exfoliant and trust me, the stuff is magical! I follow it up with an essence and a moisturizer. Current fave is Cosrx Snail 96 Mucin Essence and Clinique's Turnaround Overnight Revitalizing Moisturizer. If I think my skin needs more hydration, I treat myself to sheet masks and sleeping packs.”
2. How about your makeup routine?
“I keep my everyday makeup pretty simple - powder or BB cream for the base, concealer for hiding imperfections, natural brows, and some lipstick and blush to add color to my face. If I want more glam, I use a full coverage foundation, add contour and highlights, and do strong brows.”
3. What are the top 5 beauty products (skincare and makeup) that you can't live without?
“My main priority is cleansing, hydrating, and protecting my skin so I can't live without a cleanser, a moisturizer, and a sunscreen for sure. After securing all three, I choose lipstick and eyebrow pomade. Adding those two can instantly change how you look.”
1. When did you first find out about Sample Room?
“I came across Sample Room when I was searching for beauty boxes here in the Philippines. While not exactly a subscription site, it fulfills everything I wish for so I immediately created an account. Respectable local and international brands, check! New product launches, check! I can choose exactly what I want, check! Everything is free except for the shipping! MAJOR CHECK!”
2. How did Sample Room help you in your journey into the world of skincare and makeup?
“In addition to providing a variety of free beauty and skincare items, Sample Room keeps me up to date with the local beauty industry news. I always check Sample Room if there are new product launchings, etc. Even if I don't check out an item, the site is a treasure trove of information. It's very easy to see feedback from fellow members with similar characteristics like me.”
3. What were your best finds that you discovered through our site?
“Zenutrients Strawberry Lip Butter and Belo BB Body Cream so far!”
4. Do you see yourself still sampling in Sample Room in 3-5 years?
“Of course! Sample Room appeals to me because they're literally their slogan "Try Before You Buy". No commitments needed (except for sharing your own reviews) and you don't need to have a continuous subscription. It's truly a guilt-free sampling experience!”
5. Any advice for your fellow roommates for their sampling journey?
“If you're on a tight budget, Sample Room's free membership offers great value. Make sure to mix and match to get the most of your account! As soon as you're ready, try the VIP membership to open up more sampling opportunities!”
