Roommate of the Month for May 2018

Great desire and passion are two of the things that drive and motivate us to give our very best in everything that we do. They give us the push to go beyond our limits and let us discover a new side in us that we’ve never seen before.
Paired with her personal experiences and the dedication to write and share what she knows, Regina Geraldine Baloy-Panganiban, our May #RoommateOfTheMonth was able to express her thoughts, share her stories, and provide an in-depth look into her world of skin care and makeup through her blog.
Let’s get to know more about the blogger behind the “My Kikay Stuff” blog, as she answers a few questions from us!   ABOUT REGINA'S BLOG 1. Tell us about you and your blog. “I am a full time Pediatrician at The Medical City Clinics, contributing writer of MIMS Doctor Magazine and creator of “My Kikay Stuff", a personal blog I started seven years ago. Having experienced bad acne in my early teens made me more of a skin care advocate than a makeup buff so expect to see a lot of product discoveries and common frustrations on how to do my own makeup when you visit my blog.”   2. When did you start your blog and what inspired you to create one? “In 2011, after discovering a dupe of my favorite lip balm, I suddenly felt the need to spread the word to as many people possible. Backed with the desire to write and share what I know, I started the beauty blog mykikaystuff. At first, it was like having an online diary I share with friends and over the years I gained more friends who follow my blog. It was then when I realized my responsibility to continue posting in-depth and honest reviews for my loyal readers.”   3. Who are the bloggers that you look up to? “My blog wouldn’t have lasted this long without the inspiration I constantly get from pioneer local bloggers Nikki Tiu of AskMeWhats, Shen Gee Cala-or of Shen’s Addiction, Liz Lanuzo of Project Vanity, and Say Tioco Artillero. International beauty bloggers Emily Eddington of Beauty Broadcast, Jen Chae of From Head to Toe, and Michelle Phan have also been my source of motivation. These pillars of the beauty community have helped shape who I am as a blogger today.”   4. Top 3 pieces of advice you can give to our roommates who are interested to start up a blog. “1. Write about what you love and the rest will come easily. 2. Join a community that will inspire you to be better. 3. Enjoy!”     ON HER BEAUTY ROUTINE 1. Share with us your skincare routine! “My daily skincare routine consists of using a foaming cleanser and exfoliating scrub to deeply cleanse my pores. Next is applying anti-acne treatment toner followed by a light moisturizer, Vitamin C serum, under eye serum and sunscreen. At the end of the day, I remove my makeup with micellar water or cleansing towelettes and use a sleeping pack in place of sunscreen. I also use a rinse-off clay mask or moisturizing face mask once to twice a week.”   2. How about your makeup routine? “I almost always skip using primer on ordinary days and start with mineral foundation or BB cushion then set it with a translucent loose powder. Next is applying eye shadow and curling my lashes. I usually go for a simple makeup look so I tend to use a single shade of eyeshadow without eyeliner and mascara. I’m still in the process of perfecting the way I do my brows so I just maintain my natural brow shape, fill in the sparse areas and blur it with a spoolie. I’m not so much into highlighting and contouring but I do add a bit of blush on my cheeks. Since I have dry and creased lips, I always prime them with lip balm before applying a layer of lipstick. Lastly, I never go out without a generous amount of makeup fixing spray.”   3. What are the top 5 beauty products (skincare and makeup) that you can't live without? “1. Sunblock I can go out without wearing any makeup but never without sunblock. I believe it’s pointless to strictly follow a skincare routine or use potent products without protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. 2. Lip balm Having dry lips has made me a lip balm devotee since my teen years. Name every lip balm you know, whether in stick, tube, canister or tub and I’m pretty sure I’ve tried most if not all of them. 3. Treatment toner I have combination skin with an oily T-zone and normal to dry areas on the rest of my face. My skin has always been prone to pimple breakouts especially during my monthly period. This is why I use a specially formulated toner I get from my Dermatologist. 4. Serum I’m a late bloomer when it comes to the use of serum and how I wish I could go back in time to incorporate it a bit earlier in my skincare routine. I have to admit, I mistook serums as overpriced moisturizers. I eventually snapped out of that myth after finding the best serum that suits my skin type. Now, I can’t possibly skip a day without applying serum. 5. Brow Kit Another thing I discovered late as a makeup essential is the use of brow pencil. I remember trying one that came highly recommended by a good friend and three years later I still love how I can instantly transform my unruly brows to naturally sculpted ones every single day.”     ABOUT HER SAMPLE ROOM JOURNEY 1. When did you first find out about Sample Room? “I found out about Sample Room weeks before its debut in 2012 from one of their partner bloggers, Shen of Shen’s Addiction. Luckily, I registered early, got the very first sample pack they issued and the rest is history.”   2. How did Sample Room help you in your journey into the world of skincare and makeup? “I have to say that Sample Room has truly empowered me as a consumer because it gave me the opportunity to test different products before buying them. Without Sample Room, I wouldn’t have enough resources to try a vast amount of newly released products in the market. I’m used to being impatient when it comes to getting obvious results from skincare products and I tend to set aside those that don’t impress me after several days of use. Sample Room’s policy of trying products long enough before coming out with a verdict instilled a sense of diligence in me. Now, I’m all for the long-term effects that products offer instead of dwelling on first impressions.”   3. What were your best finds that you discovered through our site? “Of all the samples I availed from Sample Room, it’s almost impossible to mention just a few that I find amazing. These include the Shu Uemura Whitefficient Clear Brightening Gentle Cleansing Oil, Shiseido Ibuki Skincare Set, Za Perfect Solution moisturizer and Cetaphil Daylong Kids Lotion SPF 50+. But the best product find, in my humble opinion has got to be the Belo SunExpert Face Cover SPF40 and PA+++. The lightweight formula, high SPF with UVA and UVB protection and reasonable price tag are just some of the reasons why this sunblock rocks!”

  4. Do you see yourself still sampling in Sample Room in 3-5 years? “I will definitely be sampling products for as long as Sample Room is around and committed to consumer empowerment.”   5. Any advice for your fellow roommates for their sampling journey? “I encourage my fellow roommates to continue supporting Sample Room’s advocacy of “try before you buy”. Don’t get tired of testing new products, it’s this way that most of us find our potential holy grail. Also, when you can, try subscribing to Sample Room’s VIP membership and get exclusive perks!”   Seeing Regina’s fearlessness and passion for trying out new things inspires us to step out of our comfort zone and take on the adventure that awaits us.
