ABOUT SHY’S BLOG
1. Tell us about you and your blog.
“My blog is all about my beauty and lifestyle discoveries, filled with my thoughts and confessions about the products and services I've tried. I am a beauty rookie who is fond of trying out affordable beauty and skincare products so that I can share them to my little community of readers and followers who would like to try out these products too.”
2. When did you start your blog and what inspired you to create one?
“I started blogging when I first won a product kit from Sample Room in 2014 - the Vaseline one. This triggered me to share my reviews about the products and it continued to me trying different products as well. I actually started blogging about dating and relationships in 2009 (PS, I still do! - thelovediary.me) but I began doing my product reviews in 2014.”
3. Who are the bloggers that you look up to?
“Genzel Habab, Shayne Naidas. I love how they curate their IG feeds and beauty blogs which inspired me to perfectly create mine as well.”
4. Top 3 pieces of advice you can give to our roommates who are interested to start up a blog.
“A. Write with an intent to share. I noticed that newbie bloggers start up a blog because they want to get free products. It's just a bonus, for me. When I started blogging, my intent is to just share my thoughts even though I don't have huge readership yet.
B. Build your network and credibility first. Brands will surely notice you if these have been built. Share your blog posts on your social media so that people who might be interested may click on that link and maybe share them as well.
C. Find your niche. In blogging, you need to have a certain focus so that you don't confuse your readers. For me, I focused more on beauty and skincare (with a side of events, still related to beauty and skincare). Because your blog is your own brand.”
ON HER BEAUTY ROUTINE
1. Share with us your skincare routine!
“My skincare routine is just simple, cleanse, tone, and moisturize. For me, we only need these three basic steps to a better skin. It is important to cleanse away the dirt, tone your skin to remove the dirt that wasn't cleared during the cleansing, and moisturize so that the skin remains nourished and healthy.”
2. How about your makeup routine?
“For my daily makeup routine, I just put liquid foundation that will be good for a day without retouch (sometimes, if it gets oily I put setting powder in the middle of the day), then do my brows using a powder brush so it doesn't look fully filled. Then I now prefer using lip and cheek tint for a natural look. (I am using my own brand of lip and cheek tint: Glamour Tint! @glamourcollectionmnl ❤)”
3. What are the top 5 beauty products (skincare and makeup) that you can't live without?
“1. Brow products. Can't go a day without doing my brows.
2. Cleanser. If I get too tired for the day, I make sure I don't miss cleansing so I don't get a zit the next day.
3. Lip or cheek tint. Products like this are double purpose so you don't need to bring extra blush on or extra lip product.
4. Setting powder. Because i only put the liquid foundation during day time, I only retouch using a setting powder so it doesn't always look I'm wearing my full makeup every day.
5. Liquid Eye liners. Before I even learned how to do my brows, liquid eye liners are my thing. I use them when I had lack of sleep the night before so it doesn't look like I am stressed and as what I usually mention in my blog, liquid eye liners bring extra accent in the eyes.”
ABOUT HER SAMPLE ROOM JOURNEY
1. When did you first find out about Sample Room?
“I found out about Sample Room in 2014 when I was just building my presence in social media. I tried out my first products and then I won a gift pack from Vaseline.”
2. How did Sample Room help you in your journey into the world of skincare and makeup?
“Sample Room helped me in my journey into the world of makeup and skincare because they offered a variety of them for us beauty enthusiasts to try. Although most samples are easily sold out, Sample Room still gives me an idea on which products are currently "IN" the market so that I can try them.”
3. What were your best finds that you discovered through our site?
“There's a lot! One of my favorites is the Belo products. I think this brand is my most sampled product ever since. To be honest, most of the skincare products I have tried worked for me. Some still didn't, but at least I have tried them first before even buying the actual product.”

4. Do you see yourself still sampling in Sample Room in 3-5 years? “Yes. Been sampling for 4 years now and still counting!” 5. Any advice for your fellow roommates for their sampling journey? “Sample the products that you only believe in. Do not just try out a sample for the sake of having it for free. Because the more you believe in a product, the more you will likely share your true feedback about it.” True it is that mastering a new forte may be strenuous and difficult. But, if we put our hearts and minds to it just like Shy did, as long as it interests and motivates us to do better, everything will follow.
