Roommate of the Month for September 2018

Being able to juggle work and our personal interests is a skill that requires a lot of patience, dedication and passion. These characteristics are what motivate us to go beyond our limits and uncover a new side in us that can allow us to grow and become the creative and unique version of ourselves. This is why our September #RoommateOfTheMonth, Twinie Kaye Lim Ng, was able to find balance in being a businesswoman, an entrepreneur, and a fashion and lifestyle blogger all at once. As a fashion and beauty enthusiast, starting her blog was brought upon her hardworking spirit, her love for what she does and her desire to empower readers. This is what pushed her to support Sample Room’s #TryBeforeYouBuy concept, with the hopes to inspire that they too will create a style of their own.     Let’s get to know more about her beauty and blogging tips as she answers a few questions from us!   ABOUT TWINIE’S BLOG 1. Tell us about you and your blog. "I have a twin sister who is equally fashionable like me. I love to watch movies and travel. When it comes to food, I'm one of the boys. My Cardio? Shopping. Right now, I'm managing 4 businesses plus my fashion blog called IamMyOwnStylist. My blog focuses on power-dressing and aims to empower the youth to get creative on their style options, develop fashion pegs and eventually create a style that can call it their very own."   2. When did you start your blog and what inspired you to create one? "I started blogging since 2011. Back in Ateneo, my friends would call me different names like "Greek Goddess", "Minerva" et. al. simply because they say that I'm only one of the few people who could pull-off such unique yet stylish outfits, without looking weird or overdressed. They are my inspiration behind this blog. "   3. Who are the bloggers that you look up to? "Personally, I love the fashion curations of Wendy Nguyen. It's very fresh and modern. Locally, I like the tandem of sisters Vern & Verniece Enciso. They are always on point with their matchy outfits. When it comes to stylish picks, I look up to Heart Evangelista. She just recently launched her new website under her very own name Love Marie Escudero. She is a style maven in every sense of the word."   4. Top 3 pieces of advice you can give to our roommates who are interested to start up a blog. "A) Passion should be your fuel in starting a blog. If you're just in for the freebies, then you'll eventually get burnt out. B) Starting a blog can be fun but there are already thousands of people who are ahead of you so make sure to think of a good niche or entry point to get people to notice you. Aside from that, you also have to be consistent in writing articles. That's how you become successful. C) In the blogosphere, there will be a lot of people who will judge your line of work. You can't please everyone, but still, please be real and authentic. Just like celebrities, learn to be able to handle compliments and criticism with open arms."     ON HER BEAUTY ROUTINE 1. Share with us your skincare routine! "You’ve probably heard it a million times from your own peers but it’s true, no matter how tired you are, always remember to cleanse, tone and moisturize everyday. I make it a point to wear sunblock with high SPF especially on days that need extra protection. Before I sleep I apply Petroleum Jelly on my lips and some Brightening and Smoothing Treatment on my face to help correct the appearance of skin discoloration and keep me hydrated. I also massage oil all over my body to soothe any aching muscles as well as increase blood circulation. Now that I'm reaching my early 30's, I am also starting to use Anti-Aging Creams to keep my skin supple and glowing."   2. How about your makeup routine? "I have combination skin so I use a matte foundation with air-light finish after moisturizing. I then do my brows, light contouring and apply blush. To add some depth to my Asian eyes, I apply eyeshadow, a feline flick and use an all-weather proof mascara. For big events, I'd definitely go with falsies to add oomph to my look. For those days that I only wear light makeup such as BB Cream or Tinted Foundation, I cleanse with Micellar Water. For those days I wear heavier makeup, I double cleanse by using Ponds Cold Cream and incorporate it with my basic cleansing routine."   3. What are the top 5 beauty products (skincare and makeup) that you can't live without? "I've always believed that true beauty starts from self-care---the kind of love that we owe to ourselves. In no particular Order, my top 5 beauty products would be: · Moisturizing Creams for both face & body · A Gentle Toner · BB Cream with SPF / Foundation with SPF · Eyebrow Set · Hydrating Lippie Set"     ABOUT HER SAMPLE ROOM JOURNEY 1. When did you first find out about Sample Room? "I started hearing about Sample Room through Instagram and Facebook years ago. I made an account as early as 2014, but I only began my active patronage early 2017 due to the fact that I’ve noticed that bigger brands have started partnering with Sample Room. As a beauty enthusiast, I didn't want to miss out on any of those exclusive samples worth having for free."   2. How did Sample Room help you in your journey into the world of skincare and makeup? "Sample Room has proven that there are so many skincare and makeup options available in the market. Whether you're a Morena, Mestiza, Chinita , there will be product suitable for your skin. By just availing sample sizes, you need not worry about the shopping investments you’re making. If you get lucky, some brands even give out full sizes so do watch out for that. I don't know about you but I am completely sold with this sampling concept introduced by Sample Room."   3. What were your best finds that you discovered through our site? "My favorite would definitely be the Uniqulo AIRism Line. The AIRism line is so comfortable and breathable, simply perfect for my daily activities. Another great find of mine was the Micropeeling toner of Belo. The toner contains Kojic and Tranexamic Acid, yet is surprisingly so gentle to my skin. I even got to swim right after using the toner. No sting or downtime at all."

  4. Do you see yourself still sampling in Sample Room in 3-5 years? "Of course! The beauty with Sample Room is that they have the consumer in mind. Orders are also processed quickly and service is very reliable. Few months back, I remembered a courier staff commenting that he has been delivering Sample Room products to my house weekly and has already memorized my address. It was really funny. I love Sample Room so much that if given a chance I’d love to be a Partner Blogger or Beauty Insider."   5. Any advice for your fellow roommates for their sampling journey? "Just like how often you open your Facebook or emails, do visit the Sample Room website daily. You'll never know what great steal you can get just by opening their website, so take the opportunity to grab limited stock samples and share an honest review about it. Who knows you can be the next Roommate of the Month just like me. It is such a pleasure to be part of this circle."     True it is that balancing multiple activities may be demanding and draining. But if we are doing something we are truly passionate about, and it continuously interests and motivates us to do our very best, then all the hard work and effort we put into it will be worth it. And it will bloom into something so beautiful and inspiring just like Twinie’s blog.
