MAY 5 EDITOR'S PICK

Roommate of the Month for April 2019

As kids, we are often asked about what do we want to be when we grow up. At such a young age we already have a general idea of what we wanted to be and what kind of life we aspire – a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, and the likes. But sometimes life does not play out the way we hoped it would. Despite our countless efforts to get to our destination, we do not always get to reach it. It’s not because we lack the skill or the effort but some things are just not meant to be because something greater is in store for us.

Like our April #RoommateOfTheMonth, Gabrielle de los Reyes, who has always dreamed of becoming a journalist but it didn't materialize due to unforeseen circumstances, pursued her passion for writing and empowering others through blogging. She became a modern-day journalist as some would call it, for she was able to tell her stories and inspire others by her journey through motherhood and self-love. And as she was able to discover and try new products from Sample Room, it gave her the drive to share her experiences and know-hows on social media and in her blog.

Let’s get to know more about Gabby and her journey as she answers a few questions from us!

ABOUT GABRIELLE’S BLOG

1. Tell us about you and your blog.

“My friends call me Gab or Gabby. I'm a proud momma of two adorable kids, and wife to Doc Chris, the man behind EZ Works Garage. My blog is basically what I call my "virtual diary". This serves as my channel to share my life on motherhood, my love for food, and my journey on self-love.”

2. When did you start your blog and what inspired you to create one?

“I started to blog in the year 2012 when I became a mom, and then I got a little behind on the following years and got back on track again last year. Ever since I was a little girl, I really wanted to become a journalist or a news anchor and despite not having the profession I would've wanted in the first place, social media and blogs serve the same purpose (for me) - share the good news, influence and empower other people.”

3. Who are the bloggers that you look up to?

“There are a lot on my mind right now, but I got my top three: Maria Hazel of its Maria Hazel, Paige Ranola of Outfits for Face, and Mommy Louise of Mommy Practicality.”

4. Top 3 pieces of advice you can give to our roommates who are interested to start up a blog.

“1. Know your niche - what you are and what you want to share with the world.

2. Start small - focus on one or two niche so that you'll not end up burnout, overwhelmed or pressured.

3. Be true to yourself and make your content original.”

ON HER BEAUTY ROUTINE

1. Share with us your skincare routine!

“Every morning I wash my face with cold water and put sunblock if needed. At night, I wash my face using a facial scrub every other day, then moisturize. I also use clay mask once or twice a month.”

2. How about your makeup routine?

“I love going bare face so the no-makeup makeup look is my go-to. I only use these products respectively: BB Cream, foundation, eyebrows, mascara, highlighter, and lipstick or lip tint. I sometimes use eye shadow or contour palette (depending on my mood).”

3. What are the top 5 beauty products (skincare and makeup) that you can't live without?

“For my skincare: Pimple Gel of Belo Essentials, Whitening Sunscreen, moisturizer, facial scrub and clay mask.

For my makeup must-haves: lip tint, nude lipstick, BB Cream or stick, eyebrow pencil and mascara.”

ABOUT HER SAMPLE ROOM JOURNEY

1. When did you first find out about Sample Room?

“I've been seeing Sample Room sending awesome products to beauty influencers I follow on Instagram and their hashtag Try Before You Buy caught my attention so I gave it a go!”

2. How did Sample Room help you in your journey into the world of skincare and makeup?

“Honestly, Sample Room did not just help me, but inspired me to start this wonderful journey! My friends and family know that I literally don't have a skincare routine. I don't even use a sunblock or a moisturizer! My makeup kit consists of an eyebrow pencil and a liptint. That's it! But through Sample Room, I was able to try and discover products that work for me.”

3. What were your best finds that you discovered through our site?

“The best for me so far are the Belo SunExpert Whitening Sunscreen SPF and PA++ and the Belo SunExpert Face Cover SPF40 and PA+++. They are effective, affordable in the market and true to their statements.”

4. Do you see yourself still sampling in Sample Room in 3-5 years?

“It's a 100% Yes! I get to try and discover new product without having to spend so much on the first try. Who wouldn’t want that, right?”

5. Any advice for your fellow roommates for their sampling journey?

“Be honest and professional on all of your reviews. Enjoy the ride while discovering wonderful products Sample Room PH has to offer!”

Destinations unreached does not mean the doors have already closed, it just means that there are more you have yet to open. It’s not about how fast you get to your destination but it’s about how you get there despite the setbacks and the challenges. You just have to be headstrong and stay true to your goal and it will find its way to you if it’s meant to be, even if it’s not how you expected it to be.
