AUGUST 17 ROOMMATE OF THE MONTH

Roommate Of The Month for July 2019

The ropes of our everyday, routine-based lives can be physically and mentally exhausting; so drifting away from our everyday routine is a breath of fresh air. Finding a hobby or two can take the stress away and let us relax and take our minds off work and responsibilities – it is simply being in the present and engaging in something that we truly enjoy.

Whether you prefer hiking, playing sports, creating art, or just simply lounging around, our escape from the everyday hustle and bustle differs from person to person. Our July #RoommateOfTheMonth, Jenesis Sta. Ana’s favourite past time is writing and taking photos which is one of the reasons why she started her blog back in 2011. There, she would write about almost anything and everything that she is passionate about, including a product favourites she got from Sample Room.

Let’s get to know more about Jen and her journey as she answers a few questions from us!

ABOUT JEN’S BLOG

1. Tell us about you and your blog.
“My blog is basically about everything under the sun or all-encompassing (food, travel, beauty, health, fashion, random thoughts et. al). But definitely contains all the things that I’m passionate about.”

2. When did you start your blog and what inspired you to create one?
“I started my blog back in 2011. The number one reason is that I love writing and taking photos, even before social media exploded. Second, is that to serve as a past-time to take my mind off from the routines of daily life and with the goal of relating to anyone by sharing my life experiences and things that I am deeply passionate about.”

3. Who are the bloggers that you look up to?
“I love American blogger Ashley LeMieux of theshineproject.com. I love her story, her messages of empowerment and her goal of imparting ways for people to shine even in life’s darkest moments. I want to be someone like that too, someone who can thrive and share the lessons she has learned from all the pain, heartaches and struggles that life decided to throw upon her.”

4. Top 3 pieces of advice you can give to our roommates who are interested to start up a blog.
Since I can’t really sum it up to 3, I’ll give 5.

  • Do some introspection first as to why you want to start a blog. When you come up with the reason, and whatever it is, stay true to it.
  • Blogging is hard work. As much as you can, provide the best output even if it’s sponsored or not. You do this for yourself, for your brand, and for your readers.
  • Always stay true to who you are. I’ve met other bloggers/vloggers/influencers who look nice and funny on their social media, but completely opposite in person. Finding out they are not outgoing in person or shy in real life, kind of disappointed me. Be someone who “what you see is what you get”. Be transparent.
  • Surround yourself with people who will inspire you, help you learn, and support you SINCERELY. The social media world is not all glamour, so if you want to spare yourself from all the drama, choose the people you want to be associated with wisely.
  • Always keep your feet planted on the ground. When you get a taste of success or a little piece of fame, don't let it get to your head. Remember, everything in life is so fleeting.

ON HER BEAUTY ROUTINE

1. Share with us your skincare routine!
“I have combination skin (dry and oily) and it’s also acne prone so basically all the products that I use have properties to combat acne. I cleanse my face with Pond’s facial scrub. Then I apply Maxi-Peel Zero Micro-Exfoliant Fluid which I first learned about and tried from Sample Room. Followed by a couple of spritz of TOP-O Topical Oxygen Supplement and once dry, I moisturize with Nature Republic’s Aloe Vera Gel. I also put Celeteque Dermo Science Acne Spot Gel to my existing pimples.”

2. How about your makeup routine?
“I love putting on makeup! After prepping my skin with the routine I mentioned earlier, I prime my skin using Quick Fx No Shine Mattifier and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I do my eyebrows and put on foundation which is Maybelline Superstay 24H Full Coverage Foundation, which I love so much. Afterwards I do my eyes and use whichever eyeshadow palette that I feel like using that day, but most days, I go for brown matte shades. Then I put on some blush on and set my make up with Nichido’s Loose Powder. If it’s everyday makeup I don’t use setting spray, but if I’m attending an event or something important, I set my make up with BYS Mattifying Setting Spray.”

3. What are the top 5 beauty products (skincare and makeup) that you can't live without?

  • Lip balm from Nivea
  • Blush on
  • Maybelline Superstay 24H Full Coverage Foundation
  • Moisturizer
  • Loose powder

ABOUT HER SAMPLE ROOM JOURNEY

1. When did you first find out about Sample Room?
“I learned about Sample Room when it was first launched. I think I saw it on my Facebook feed. I believe I was one of the first few members back in 2012.”

2. How did Sample Room help you in your journey into the world of skincare and makeup?
“I was able to try products first before purchasing them. I was able to see if one product suits me or not, so that I won’t waste money on something that doesn’t work for me.”

3. What were your best finds that you discovered through our site?
“The Belo Essentials and SunExpert line! I love all the products from that line! Every time there’s new a new Belo product, I make sure I grab samples. When it comes to sun protection, Belo has been my go-to. I especially love their sunscreen spray/mist.”

4. Do you see yourself still sampling in Sample Room in 3-5 years?
“Definitely! As long I’m still in the Philippines, I’ll continue to sample products from Sample Room.”

5. Any advice for your fellow roommates for their sampling journey?
“Have fun sampling and don’t forget to review products promptly and of course, let your friends know about Sample Room!”
