FEBRUARY 21 ROOMMATE OF THE MONTH

Roommate of the Month for February 2020

Anyone with a passion knows the feeling of finally being able to pursue it. Sometimes, they start out as small hobbies or interests that eventually blossom into passion. What people don't tell you is that following your dreams is also journey of being consistent, but also knowing when to take a break. Taking a break doesn't mean giving up or dropping your project, it just means that you need to take care of yourself or your priorities at the moment. If you love something, it will always come back to you-- and this applies to things we love doing as well.

Elaine Domingo (AKA Project Wanderland) started blogging over 10 years ago on Tumblr. Originally just a way to express herself, blogging became Elaine's beloved hobby that eventually introduced her to digital art as well. Elaine then took the courage to push her love for blogging even further, and now she's our February Roommate of the Month.

Read further into Elaine's blogging journey below!

ABOUT YOUR BLOG & VLOG

1. Tell us about you, your blog and your vlog.

I am a beauty enthusiast who loves to eat and travel my heart out. Digital Art, Photography and Videography are also part of my life frustrations and I have been teaching myself techniques on how to improve the aforementioned skills by religiously watching tutorial videos online and by trying random stuff to figure out how something is done.

My blogging journey started back in 2009 when "TUMBLR FAMOUS" was still a thing on the internet. Project Wanderland aims to fuel your wanderlust and passion for life. It is a blog that tackles beauty, food, travel, and life.

2. When did you start your blog and your vlog, and what inspired you to create one?

I started blogging back when I was in high school. I started using Tumblr as a way to escape but it became so much more than that. I started writing about things I tried, and the experiences I had, I met a lot of people there, and it also sparked my interest in digital art. I made my own themes and eventually made banners and themes for other people as well.

I took blogging seriously when I launched my own website back in 2016. www.projectwanderland.com was a blog that focused on mine and other people's journeys as well. I was open to entries and ideas from other people's experiences. However, I got too occupied with my career as a Hotelier so I had to make the tough decision to shut down the website in 2018.

There came a point in my life when I knew that I wanted to go back home in PH because I wanted to try other things. A few months after I got home, I saw a Facebook post from Sample Room stating that they are currently having a vlogging giveaway. I only had the guts to start posting a vlog on my Youtube Channel because of that post from Sample Room, 5 months ago.

3. Who are the bloggers and vloggers that you look up to?

The person who inspired me to take blogging seriously was Angelie Pangilinan the blogger behind " my cup of tea " http://www.angeliepangilinan.com/. I also look up to Michelle Phan, she is an amazing woman who has inspired me since time immemorial.

4. Top 3 pieces of advice you can give to our roommates who are interested to start up a blog or a vlog.

1. Always strive to learn about your blog. There are so many tutorials and ideas available online for you to consume so you can start customizing your own blog and improve your skills.

2. Stay motivated and be consistent. Real motivation comes from within, doing things for the right reason will help keep you motivated. Don't start blogging or vlogging if the first reason you have is to get monetized. Being consistent is the key to success.

3. It's okay to take a break but make sure to get back up. Because we may not always be in our best shape to write or make a vlog. It's okay to take a rest, especially if you are going through something in your personal life. But make sure to pick yourself back up.

ABOUT YOUR ROUTINE

1. Share with us your skincare routine!

I am currently trying out a new skincare routine. I use BRS from fresh formula and it can tend to be a little bit drying and cause my skin to peel off.  It also makes my skin a bit more sensitive to the sun. Luckily I have incorporated Olay Natural White Ageless Aura, It has spf 15 and brings back the moisture my skin needs.

My morning routine:

1. Cleanse face using Skin Doctor from Fresh Formula

2. Tone face using Blemish Doctor from Fresh Formula

3. Apply Olay Natural White Ageless Aura.

4. Apply Doctor Blur from Fresh Formula.

My evening routine:

1.  Cleanse face using Skin Doctor from Fresh Formula or Celeteque cleansing stick.

2. Tone face using Blemish Doctor from Fresh Formula

2.2. Apply a Korean sheet mask or Lupa Essentials face mask once or twice a week.

3. Apply Olay Natural White Ageless Aura.

4. Spot treat with Doctor Clear from Fresh Formula.

Bonus: I also exfoliate my lips while brushing my teeth and I make sure to put Laneige's lip mask. This helps a lot when you always put matte lip products.

2. How about your makeup routine?

I don't have a fixed make-up routine but here's what I have been doing lately:

1. I'm currently skipping the foundation partly because I want my skin to be able to breathe. But when I need to put on foundation for special occasions, I like to use Mac's Studio finish foundation in NC18 or Maybelline's Fit me foundation in the shade 120.

1.1. I use concealer only when necessary.

2. I love using Colourette's Colourtints for my lips, cheeks, and eyes. I use Colourette's brow pomade in Espresso for my brows.

3. I finish it off with a loose powder only when I use foundation and concealer.

3. What are the top 5 beauty products (skincare and makeup) that you can't live without?

1. Korean Sheet Mask ( They are very relaxing )

2. Lipstick or any lip products. I can go out without a brow and foundation but lip products are a must.

3. Laneige's lip mask.

4. Moisturizer

5. Facial wash

ABOUT SAMPLE ROOM

1. When did you first find out about Sample Room?

I found out about Sample Room back when I was still working in Dubai through a blog post from one of my favorite blogger and schoolmate from highschool, ate Angelie. She blogged about it on her website and it made me curious about Sample Room. Fast forward to a year, I went home from Dubai and I joined Sample Room after I saw Sample Room's post about a vlogging contest at Facebook.

2. How did Sample Room help you in your journey into the world of skincare and makeup?

Because of Sample Room I was able to try out products that I wouldn't normally buy.

Skincare and makeup tend to be quite expensive and it's hard to find a product to trust with all the new products coming out of the market every now and then. I'm always a little bit hesitant at trying things out of my comfort zone or something that hasn't been out in the market for a while. I usually look into other people's reviews first before I try a product, to make sure that it would not be a waste of money. Thanks to Sample Room, I became more proactive in trying out new releases.

3. What were your best finds that you discovered through our site?

This is a tough question, I ended up liking most of the products that I got from Sample Room. But if I were to choose three it would be the Celeteque cleansing stick, Safeguard Natural Detox with Tea Tree, and Close up white attraction natural smile.

The Celeteque cleansing stick is my most favorite find, I was lucky enough to be one of the few people who got a sample.

I also love the Safeguard Natural Detox with Tea Tree. I won't be needing more because it has the same germ-fighting factor that every household trusts and they coupled it with Tea Tree, an ingredient that my skin reacts well to.

Close up white attraction natural smile, is a product that I have repurchased several times and still use. It gives your mouth that fresh clean feel.

4. Do you see yourself still sampling in Sample Room in 3-5 years?

I do indeed. Sample Room partners up with a lot of amazing brands. It is one of the best ways to try out new products without breaking the bank.

5. Any advice for your fellow roommates for their sampling journey?

The best advice I could give would be to be more experimental and get out of your comfort zone. I understand that we are often worried about side effects and a product making us break-out or worse, but you will never know how amazing something is if you do not try. The product you are using now may have served you well but trying out something else might lead to finding your next Holy Grail. So be "BOLD", be "BRAVE" and be "YOU" when sharing your discovery and honest opinion with other roommates who might be counting on your review when choosing a new product.

Like many of us here at the Sample Room community, Elaine loves beauty, skincare, and sharing her experiences. Even if there was a time that she needed to take a break, her passion followed her and she continued what she loved to do-- at the right time and at the right place. Start what you love today, Roomies. There may be twists and turns in the journey, but as long as you love what you're doing and you put yourself first, you'll pull through.

Be BOLD, be BRAVE, and be YOU, Roomies!
