MAY 3 ROOMMATE OF THE MONTH

Roommate of the Month for May 2021

"When we look in the mirror, what do we see?"

When asked this question, we usually point out our flaws first because it's easier to see what's wrong with us rather than what's lovable about us. This is an example of how we don't love ourselves enough. But we have to remember that our flaws don’t make us who we are. Each and everyone of us has our own unique beauty. Beauty comes in all shapes, colors, and forms; and when we begin to accept our flaws and start loving ourselves more, growth happens and allows us to become the most positive, confident, and empowered version of ourselves.

Just like our May Roommate of The Month, Lady Hannah Apigo Peralta, she had her fair share of challenges and low points throughout her life. But these challenges didn't make her stop and surrender, rather, she has used them as a fuel to motivate herself to keep going and inspire others to do the same. Now, as a beautiful woman inside and out, she is using her platforms to empower women, to inspire them to love themselves more, embrace their flaws and celebrate their own unique kind of beauty.

ABOUT LADY

  1. Tell us about you and your vlog.

“I primarily focus on beauty and lifestyle niche because I’ve always wanted to boost not just others’ but also my own confidence and self-esteem. Growing up as someone being teased because of my physical flaws left a big mark on my heart and my whole being. Thus, I started with this journey to empower like-minded individuals to embrace their flaws and celebrate beauty with their uniqueness while introducing products, tips, hacks, and ways to help them become their better selves too.”

  1. When did you start your vlog and what inspired you to create one?

“I actually started way back when I was in college and when I accidentally got pregnant with my baby. My pregnancy wasn’t planned since I was just a student back then, but when it happened, I realized that I have to earn a living to support my pregnancy since her father turned away and left us. That was painful but I had to move on so to make the long story short, I used my writing skills and love for anime to earn and save money. I became a blogger for MyAnimeList.net using the pen name akirajasmine, my daughter’s name. Now, I still do blogs/vlogs but not totally as means to support us but as a part of my hobby and advocacy to empower women to love themselves and embrace their flaws.”

  1. Who are the vloggers that you look up to?

“This is a tough question but my top 3 would be:

Pony - Her makeup artistry is insane plus she’s so gorgeous!

Anne Clutz - Super fun momma blogger!

Nina Ellaine Dizon-Cabrera - Unafraid to tell her thoughts! So fierce in and out!”

  1. Top 3 pieces of advice you can give to our roommates who are interested to start up a social media platform?

“ 1. Find the niche that you’re truly interested in. If you’re unsure then explore the endless opportunities available. There are countless niches out there. You just need to focus on that niche/niches that make you happy and don’t feel pressured doing. Blogging/Vlogging should be fun!

2. If you know the niche that you want to focus on then you should find the best platforms to join or reach out to. By platforms, I meant communities or influencer marketing platforms. Now, I’m not saying that Sample Room PH is an influencer marketing platform but for startup influencers, I believe this is the best place to start. You get to try and review products for free while honing your blogging/vlogging skills in the process. You just have to pay for the shipping fee.

3. Make it fun and don’t forget to be you! Now, blogging/vlogging can sometimes be so stressful. It could drain your creative juices too. But, don’t let it get to you.”

      5. How are you able to balance your personal life, professional career, and being a content creator?

“This is a great question. I actually schedule and organize everything I do so I can juggle every role and make things work. It’s never easy and a never-ending cycle but I believe that there’s a time for everything. You just have to prioritize and know which ones to work on first until you get things done then repeat!”

ABOUT HER CREATIVE PROCESS:

  1. What's your inspiration for every social media and vlog post?

“My inspiration comes from a lot of ways but top-most inspiration would be my daughter. They say that children are great imitators but actually, if you look the other way around, you’ll find that there’s more to imitate in them. They are more creative and fun than we think we are.”

  1. What makes your page or vlog different from other creators? What is your goal and objective with your platform/s?

“What makes my vlog unique is that I’m never afraid to try out new things and state my thoughts. I don’t get scared to let people see my flaws too because this is me and I know and acknowledge that I’m not perfect. That said, what you would see on my content truly speaks my unfiltered face and thoughts in relation to my advocacy on empowering women and embracing their flaws and uniqueness. On the other hand, I also promote products and introduce some tips and hacks to help them out too.”

  1. How do you make sure that you stick to your original goal as your platforms grow?

“I have this dream board that I always follow through and go back to when doing things. For me, it’s my ultimate guide and roadmap that helps me achieve everything I do now."

  1. What did you learn or is continuously learning as you venture deeper in the digital world?

“So many takeaways to share on this one. For starters, I learned to embrace and love myself even more. I started to value myself and others too. And, in the process, as I met new people, I learned to improve my content and become more creative while staying strong on my standpoint.”

ABOUT HER ROUTINE:

  1. Share with us your skincare routine!

“I follow a simple skincare routine unless I’m reviewing a set of products where following the process is important to truly know its effectiveness. It’s just a simple Cleanse - Tone - Moisturize routine for me, and using peel-off/moisturizing masks and facial scrub bi-weekly. For my lips, my trusted product to date would be Vaseline Lip Therapy.”

  1. How about your makeup routine?

“I don’t always use makeup unless necessary but I love natural makeup looks! So my routine simply goes as follows:

  • Base cream/Primer
  • Concealer
  • Fixing my brows
  • Adding a little eyeliner to make my eyes pop
  • A little blush
  • Velvet tint/Lip gloss
  • Powder to set the look.”
  1. What are the top 5 beauty products (skincare and makeup) that you can't live without?

“Top 5 Skincare Products with brand suggestions that work on my skin

  • Facial wash (Myra, Ponds, Eskinol, Beauty Trends)
  • Peel-Off Masks (IWhite Korea, Beauty Trends, Miniso, Biore)
  • Toner (Ponds, Beauty Trends, Now and After, Nacific, Hello Glow)
  • Lip care (Vaseline Lip Therapy)
  • Creams (IWhite, Hayejin, Dr. And Co,)

Top 5 MakeUp Products with brand suggestions that work on my skin

  • Eyeliner (Blythe, Detail Cosmetics)

ABOUT HER SAMPLE ROOM JOURNEY

  1. When did you first find out about Sample Room?

“Last year, I think that was around August. I was just starting out back then and most brands would reach out to me telling me to buy a certain product package first before I can join so it was frustrating until I found Sample Room PH.”

  1. How did Sample Room help you in your journey into the world of skincare and makeup?

“It helped me improve my content. The product they offer aside, being a roommate in Sample Room requires you to abide by their terms, hence, it’s important to provide honest and quality reviews. With that and while continuing my journey as a vlogger and roommate, I was able to improve my content and be more detailed in giving reviews.”

  1. What were your best finds that you discovered through our site?

“Actually, all of the products featured in the Sample Room cabinet are great finds but for those that I’ve tried so far, it would be the following:

  • Pond’s Anti-Bacterial Refreshing Facial Mist - A great product for battling maskne and I’m working on restocking one for myself.
  • closeup All-Around Fresh Cool Mint - Been using both variants since then. My baby loves it too!
  • Lifebuoy Total 10  Hand Wash - Love the scent as it makes me feel super clean with every wash.
  • St. Ives Energizing Facial Scrub - Been using this since then. I would restock this despite the price because it is really effective. Made my friends use it too and they love it!
  • Hygienix Germ-Kill Body Wash - The family loves it. My father has been addicted to it and enjoys using it as much as I do. He would go the extra mile of looking for the Sakura variant in stores too since it easily goes out of stock.”
  1. Do you see yourself still sampling in Sample Room in 3-5 years?

“Yes, of course. I don’t think I’ll ever stop. It is a great platform not just for startup influencers but for those who love to explore and try out new things. Plus, I love learning from my roommates too.”

  1. Any advice for your fellow roommates on their sampling journey?

“Just pick the right brand and product that works well with your niche so you can deliver the right value to the brand that your gonna give feedback to. Them, asking for a review not only means that they want you to post about their products online. What they also need from you is your honest review so they can make improvements to the product, if necessary. Just be straightforward in a manner that won’t ruin the brand too.”
