With our hair often being touted as our crowning glory, there’s no doubt about the fact that getting it to look great is massively important. To do so we often run it through a daily routine we’ve set up, some of which may entail heat styling, complicated braiding, or even tight tying.

And while all that may end up making our hair look absolutely impeccable, the cost can be high – subjecting your strands to such abuse on a regular basis is likely to cause it to develop some sort of damage! Luckily, though, the cure isn’t that hard to attain.

Here are our fresh tips on how you can treat your damaged hair and get it back to its full glory:

 Do it DIY style

Do it DIY style

As the old saying goes, “If you want it done right, then do it yourself.” It may seem far-fetched for some, but it is wholly possible to create your own hair treatments. The best part about it all is that you don’t need fancy ingredients – even normal, everyday foodstuff in your kitchen will suffice. Take a look at how you can do so:

Create an avocado mish-mash

Sounds delicious, but no, it’s not a snack. Rather, it’s a mask you can apply to your wet hair. Doing so will allow your strands to absorb the ingredients’ many vitamins and fatty acids, all of which are needed by your hair to maintain a lively appearance.

Here’s what you need to do to make your own (don’t worry, it’s super easy!):

–       Take one whole small avocado and remove the pit. Place it in a medium sized bowl and begin squishing it together until it turns into a chunky mush.

–       Add one to two tablespoons of freshly extracted lemon juice, depending on hair length.

–       Add ¼ cup of olive oil or until the mixture is sloppy in texture.

Once your ingredients are sufficiently integrated, apply it onto your damp hair and let it be for 20 minutes to half an hour. You could also tie your hair up into a topknot and then cover it up with a shower cap.

After that, wash it off as you would regularly with shampoo and conditioner. The effects are instantaneous – once you start brushing, you’re sure to feel the difference! Your hair will be smoother, easier to handle, and glossier than ever before.

Create a honey-milk mix

This one’s much easier to make. Mix 1 cup of whole milk with 2 tablespoons of natural honey. You could also add a raw egg in too. After that, apply it to your hair and let it work for about an hour, then rinse it off – done!

The best part about this hair mask is that it doesn’t leave your hair greasy; instead it gives it a soft feel and a healthy shine. All that for just 2 ingredients!

Let your hair down

Let your hair down

Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest ones. Refrain from styling your hair in overly complicated patterns and opt to let it fly naturally instead. For those occasions when you really need to tie it up though, a simple ponytail or a quick bun can do the job.

 Get a haircut

Get a haircut

If you feel like your hair is taking on a straw-like texture, especially when near the roots, then that’s a clear signal that it’s time for a trim. Chop it all off in one fell swoop by getting a bob or a pixie, or if you want to keep your locks long then just make sure you cut enough to get rid of your split ends.

 Refrain from harsh treatments

Refrain from harsh treatments

Straightening, rebonding, perming, or coloring your hair is now a thing of the past. If you want your hair to recover then you should definitely keep it away from chemicals that could cause it to dry out in the first place. Don’t worry, there are alternatives – for example, you could use ammonia-free or demi-permanent formulas for coloring your hair if you really need to.

Shampoo and condition

Shampoo and condition

There’s nothing quite like the good ol’ shampoo and conditioner combo, though this time you should get sulfate-free kinds to maximize its healing potential. Going organic doesn’t hurt either; look for brands that carry moisturizing elements such as aloe vera, glycerol, or panthenol, as they’ll play a large role in keeping your hair from drying out.

keep your skin glowing cover

With the hustle and bustle that comes with everyday life, it’s easy to forget about having to do our daily skincare routines. Oftentimes we may find ourselves even cutting it down to save ourselves time, thinking that our skin will be fine without it. While that may be true to some extent, a little maintenance every now and then never hurt, and the same goes for the condition of our skin.

Now, skin care isn’t limited to only using the best reviewed moisturizer in the Philippines every day. It’s much more than that – our skin’s health is dictated by a number of factors that are related to the other activities we do, such as eating or exercising.

In this article we’ll discuss how these “other activities” can actually contribute to keeping your skin looking healthy and young. Learn how you can keep your skin smooth and glowing naturally:

Eat and drink well

Eat and drink well

Skin hydration, while often done with body lotion, is also best done from within. That said, make sure to ingest a good amount of water daily. The normal 8 cups a day are a good start! You could also go for natural teas or fresh fruit juices to mix it up. Better yet, you could even try your hand at whipping up a natural smoothie for a refreshing beverage perfect for any time of the day.

On the other hand, you could also ingest foods that are rich in water content to further satisfy your body’s needs. Have your fill of fruits and vegetables such as:

–       Carrots

–       Cucumbers

–       Tomatoes

–       Oranges

–       Apples

–       Kiwi

–       Watermelon

–       Coconut

Not only are they delicious and healthy, but they also contain a myriad of vitamins and minerals that are essential to our body’s daily function. It also helps that food such as these contribute to our body’s efforts in producing elastin and collagen, which are proteins in our skin.

Avoid toxins

Avoid Toxins

Toxins – particularly irritants and allergens – must be avoided at all costs as it may trigger sudden flare ups, especially if you’re already suffering from a kind of skin-related malaise. One of the best ways to do so is to check for your products’ ingredients, and this goes for food, personal, and hygienic items.

Take general care of your skin

Take general care of your skin

It is universally agreed among beauty gurus that moisturizing is best done during the night as it will undo some of the damage that your skin has suffered during the day. When doing so, make sure to impart special attention onto your knees, elbows, and feet, as those parts of the body tend to dry out faster than the rest.

However, take note that no matter how much moisturizer you slather on your body, it would all be for naught if you fail to remove the dead cells that clog your skin. That said, wash your body well before beginning your skincare regimen.

Use DIY home remedies

Even the application of simple ingredients such as honey, egg whites, lemons, bananas, and olive oil can do a lot to maintain one’s skin, especially when done in the face area. You can rub these ingredients on your skin separately or create a custom cocktail of items to form a custom, home-made lotion! All you’ll need is a little bit of beeswax to do so and you’re good to go.

1. I promise to wear sunscreen every day
Contrary to popular belief, summer time is not the only time to apply your trusted sun protection products as UV rays are present all year round! 4. I promise to eat more nutritious food
If your diet is still unhealthy, maybe it’s time to inject some greens and nutrients to your meals! The internet is a goldmine of information for healthy and yummy recipes. Search for ones you find appealing and try it at home! Explore your city’s farmer’s market or restos that serve healthy food. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to take a step to a healthier you.

5. I promise to move more
This resolution is probably the most common in the history of New Year’s Resolutions year after year but why do some people still fail at it? One reason I know is that they quit and give up after a few months due to tight schedules or they never really tried at all! (Yes, I’m writing from experience) If you can’t commit full-time to a workout sesh in the gym or at home (like me), try incorporating small doses of extra movement in your everyday routine. If your office is just a few floors up, try taking the stairs. If the convenience store is just a few blocks away, walk. No matter how small, these steps of extra effort to move can help you over time.

Remember roommates, no matter how long or short your New Year’s Resolutions list is, consistency is the key. Start small and work your way from there. It’s all about building the habit and sticking to it to be able to see and feel the effects of the changes in your routines.

Good luck!

#SampleRoomTips: Going Natural
Saturday, 29 October 2016

Today, the need for beauty products has reached an all-time high, and with it has come the demand for naturally made, organic variations. That’s not to say that there’s something wrong with using chemically – produced makeup seeing as manufacturers always do their best to ensure that their products are safe for daily consumption, but going the organic route has the added benefit of being much more secure in terms of ingredients used.

Other than that, take a look at the other benefits that natural beauty products bring:

theyre safe and gentle

They’re safe and gentle

Because they’re made from biological material, it comes as no surprise that they’re easier on the skin, no matter the type. There are fewer chances of there being side effects or undesirable developments. Chemical products, on the other hand, have a tendency to cause breakouts, rashes, or even irritation when used improperly.
This is especially true for facial products. Due to our faces having thinner skin that the rest of our body, makeup can seep in deeper and as such, cause more pronounced effects – regardless of whether it’s good or bad.

If you’ll notice, the best reviewed products here in Manila – conditioners, soaps, lotions, or what have you – are those that are not too harsh. Gentle, subtle cosmetics are always preferred over their bombastic, easy-to-identify counterparts.

They have no strong scents

Aside from keeping your skin safe no regardless of skin type, natural products also don’t need artificial perfumes to be fragrant. They simply smell like what they’re made of, and they’re often not very pungent. They stay as the day goes on, too. This is in stark contrast to chemical products which, for one, need the artificial scents, and two, may sometimes overwhelm its users from the overuse of strong synthetic perfume.

theyre environmentally friendly

They’re environmentally friendly

The best part of using natural cosmetics is that it doesn’t negatively impact the environment as hard as chemical cosmetics do. When natural products are manufactured, the ingredients are fully biodegradable, which makes it easier for Earth to digest product waste. While some may argue that chemical variations are undoubtedly cheaper, the toll it takes on the environment, especially when not managed properly, is something not even an infinite amount of money can buy off.

Using naturally made products has a lot of advantages. They’re safer, easier on our body, and they’re environmentally friendly. While there’s nothing wrong with using their synthetic counterparts, try out organic products too and see if they retain the same level of effectiveness without sacrificing quality.

You can try your hand on the organic route if it suits your lifestyle with products from Zenturients available here at Sample Room.
